i am planning on visiting Colombia and want to go to the beach but still be near a large city. so where in Colombia would be a good place to stay?
cartagena-barranquilla-santa marta.
those are the main cities in the north caribbean coast, the beach is better in santa marta, though cartagena has the colonial thing going on, so its really turistic and safe, the three of them are pretty safe, barranquilla is the biggest city, but the with is at around 15 minutes by car, not just across the street, but they are all pretty nice and safe.
look at this, here is cartagena X--- 1 hour----X(barranquilla)-----1 hour----- Xsanta marta.
so if you choose cartagena you can go to barranquilla, just one hour by car, and lie 3 minutes by plain
Santa Martha is better than Cartagena because has a nicer beach, Cartagena has more old churches to see, but if you can San Andres is awesome , it is an island part of the caribean and it is far from the mainland but worth to see.
