Is it that i need to open an NRI account to transfer the money from KSA to India or is it possible to send to my regular savings account ?

You can transfer directly to your regular savings account anywhere in india besides you have account with some leading bank. You can do so using telemoney at any of the banks in saudi arabia like Arab National Bank, Samba, Al-Jazira, Al-Rajhi etc. However it will be good if you can open an NRI account. It has some additional benefits as well.
